Support

Psalmody is for meditating on a psalm rather than skimming it. You choose a psalm and a method, and work through it a step at a time, with the text, a subject to begin from, and a commentator beside you.

Common questions

How do I begin?

Tap a psalm on the home page, choose one of the four methods, then tap Begin. Bridge's Rule is the shortest at three steps. The Full Method is the longest at eight.

Can I change the translation or the commentator?

Yes, at any time. The translation is under Sources and settings. The commentator is chosen on the approach page of a meditation, or beside the reading, and the choice carries throughout.

I left a meditation partway through. Is it lost?

No. It is kept under Unfinished on the home page, with whatever you had written, and you can pick it up or discard it.

My reminders are not appearing.

Reminders are scheduled on the phone itself, so they need notification permission. Check Settings, then Notifications, then Psalmody. Nothing is sent from a server, because there is no server.

How does learning by heart work?

A verse that stopped you in a meditation can be added under By heart. It comes back with words blanked out, and the blanks widen as you get it right. The wrong answers offered are always real words from the same psalm. You can copy the cards out as Anki cloze notes at any time.

Where is my writing stored, and how do I get it out?

Everything stays on your device. Under Sources and settings, Copy everything puts your whole journal on the clipboard as plain text.

How do I delete what I have written?

Sources and settings, then Delete all meditations. This cannot be undone and there is no backup, so copy it out first if you want to keep it. Verses you are learning by heart are kept separately and are not deleted.

I reinstalled the app and my journal is gone.

Because nothing is uploaded, there is nothing to restore from. Deleting the app removes its data with it. Copy your journal out before reinstalling, or before changing devices.

Privacy

Psalmody has no account, no sign-in and no analytics, and the app contains no networking code at all. Nothing you write is transmitted anywhere, because there is nowhere for it to go. Everything is held on the device and removed with the app. The full privacy policy is on its own page.

Texts and sources

The psalm texts, the methods and all commentary are public domain or released under CC0, and every quotation is attributed to its edition. The full list is on the Sources page inside the app.
